Resume
Faxing
(by
Mario Churchill) |
One of the most
popular ways to get
a resume to a
prospective employer
is to send it by
facsimile. Resume
faxing is still the
most efficient way
to send your resume.
Despite the advent
of many employers
who are using
e-mail, many smaller
companies still
prefer to get a
resume via
facsimile. There are
many different ways
to accomplish resume
faxing. You can even
do it though your
computer if you set
up the capabilities.
Certain companies
offer resume faxing
for a small fee. You
can bring your
resume to the
company with the
different names of
the companies to
where you wish to
fax the resume and
they will send the
resumes by fax to
the companies of
your choice.
Resume faxing has
advantages. The
employer gets a
tangible document
immediately. When a
file is sent through
e-mail, many
computers cannot
open the file.
Because there are so
many different word
processing programs
and different
computer types, not
all files can be
opened by e-mail.
This is one of the
reasons why many
employers and
potential employees
prefer resume
faxing.
Sending a resume
through the mail
used to be the only
way to get your
resume to the
prospective
employer. With the
advent of the fax
machine, things
changed and most
companies found that
the fax machines
saved them countless
time and money.
Instead of sending
everything by mail
and waiting days for
responses,
everything could be
done by fax. It was
not long before
employers began to
see the advantage of
asking prospective
employees to fax
their resumes to
their office rather
than wait for them
to come in the mail.
With the advent of
the internet, many
people began
submitting resumes
online. This was
useful, but many
employers were
unable to open
certain files and
were also inundated
with ads and
solicitations from
employment agencies.
This is one reason
why many employers
do not like to use
e-mail as a way to
receive resumes.
If you look in any
newspaper for
employment ads, you
will see that most
employers
prefer
faxing
resumes. Fax numbers
are private and the
potential employee
cannot show up at
the door of the
office demanding a
job. In addition,
the employer is able
to collect resumes
much quicker than if
they asked for them
to be mailed to a
post office box.
This enables the
employer to make a
hiring decision much
faster.
If you do not have
fax capabilities on
your computer, you
can either opt to
purchase a fax
machine for your
home. Fax machines
are relatively
inexpensive and are
a great way to send
documents in a
secure manner. You
can also go to a
place such as Kinkos
where they will fax
your resume to the
employer for a fee.
There are many
options when it
comes to resume
faxing.
Resume faxing has
been popular since
the late 1980s when
fax machines first
started making an
appearance in
offices. In the past
20 years, fax
machines have
improved quite
significantly and
are much less
expensive. Many
people have fax
machines in their
homes. You do not
need to have a
separate phone line
to have a fax
machine. You can use
your own phone line
for resume faxing.
If you are thinking
about applying for a
new job, update your
resume as soon as
possible. Make sure
that you have all of
your current
information included
in your new resume
as well as your
current address and
telephone number. If
you have an e-mail
address, include
that
in
your resume. You
should really update
your resume every
six months or so,
even if you are not
looking for a job,
just so you can
update your skills.
Once you have
updated your resume,
you can peruse the
want ads to discover
potential employers;
you
can find job
listings in the
newspaper and on the
internet. Even on
the internet, many
employers prefer
resume faxing.
Once you have
discovered several
job opportunities
that appeal to you,
purchase an
inexpensive fax
machine and hook it
up to your phone
line in accordance
with the
manufacturer's
instructions. Once
you have done this,
you are ready to
begin resume faxing.
Chances are that you
will receive
a
better
response by faxing
resumes than you
will by searching
for jobs online.
