Is a
Promotion for the Better? Sometimes... meaning "not
always." Promotions come with additional
responsibilities, stress, etc. Are you ready?
What Is
Your Motivation for Getting a Promotion? Do you
want more money, more status, more power? Obviously,
you want something "more." But keep this in mind: is
that something more worth the sacrifices that go with
it? If yes, go straight ahead. Otherwise, lay down the
goals you have set for yourself and think of how you can
best meet those goals. There may be a way you can
negotiate your promotion to fit what you want instead of
accepting it the way it is handed to you.
Want
to Climb the Ladder, But Avoid Office Politics?
Impossible. Office
politics is about human interactions and lobbying to
push one's agenda through. As you go up, this will only
intensify. Although office politics often has a bad
connotation, you don't have to go down that path. The
choice is yours.
How to
Get Up There? Fundamentally, it's a question of
having the right attitude and gaining the trust of
people above you. Hard work is not enough. You need to
work hard, show results, and nurture relationships.
You
Have the Work Experience, But Are Missing the Degrees?
Simple: continuing education,
career training,
and a little push in the back!
