Grad School? Not Always the Smart Choice

Marty Nemko, from U.S. News, makes the case against graduate school... at least for some.  Unlike what some school administrators would like future students to believe, grad school is not for everybody.  What we hope will come out of it does not always meet reality.

Maybe it would be time for you to go back to school and get one... 
 
Your practical knowledge, combined with the theories that you will be taught in school, could form an explosive combination.  People often lack one or the other.  Junior staff members often have enough knowledge, yet no experience.  Some senior members got there over time, yet never considered the possibility of complementing their experience with a degree or a higher degree.
 
If going back to school, full-time or part-time, is not an option, you should focus on exposing your accomplishments in a way that will compensate for your lack of relevant education.  Instead of describing your duties, tell the employers what you have accomplished.  Prove to him or her that you will be an asset.  Some employers value education more than others, so don't give up and keep trying.
