Office Party Tips

Friday, December 01, 2006

Deena Waisberg, from the Financial Post, gave 10 tips on how to make the most out of office parties:
  1. Show up.
  2. Meet the high ranking members of the organization (this is your opportunity).
  3. Circulate in the crowd and mingle with people (don't chase the boss...).
  4. Keep your conversations light and not work-related.
  5. Make contact, but avoid trying to "close deals."
  6. Be sensitive to other cultures (i.e. replace "Merry Christmas" by "Happy Holidays").
  7. Dress appropriately.
  8. Eat and drink moderately.
  9. Avoid any incidents that will make people "remember" you.
  10. Exit gracefully by approaching the people you met and bid them farewell.
  11. Last but not least, make safety a priority.

I'm at the Office Party Working

Friday, March 17, 2006

A German court ruled that employees that attend an office party are working until the supervisor leaves. The case dealt with a situation where an employee was injured during an office party. The company (an insurance company by the way) refused to compensate the employee for his injuries, but the court ruled that since the injuries were sustained while at work, the company had to pay disability to the man.
