THE ENGINE OF AMERICA
Thursday, August 23, 2007
Small business is the engine that drives America's new economy. In
The Engine of America, former administrator of the Small Business
Administration (SBA), Hector Barreto and veteran journalist Bob
Wagman reveal the winning business strategies of CEOs from 50
companies. For all those starting or growing their own small
business, the wisdom, experience, and counsel of these successful
leaders provides inspirational and thoughtful advice on making it as
an entrepreneur.
In this book, Barreto shares details of business success, and the
insights he gained while administering the nation's largest small
business loan, training, and counseling organization. Some of those
sharing their stories in The Engine of America have grown their
businesses from the most humble of beginnings into corporate giants
whose brands are household names and whose operations are integral
parts of the national economy. Others may not be instantly
recognizable, but what they have in common is success.
Hector Barreto believes if you can teach a small business owner
something he or she doesn't know, but which is critical to the
growth of their small business or which allows them to avoid a
critical mistake, you have helped put them on the road to success.
That's what The Engine of America will do.

THE LAST CHANCE MILLIONAIRE: It's Not
Too Late to Become Wealthy
Friday,
August 03, 2007
Douglas R. Andrew wrote a new book: "THE LAST CHANCE MILLIONAIRE:
It's Not Too Late to Become Wealthy." Regardless of whether you're
retiring in just a few years or down the road, this book can help
anyone overcome the most common obstacles to generating wealth with
a set of beyond-the-standard financial strategies.
Following is an excerpt from the book:
The Pitcher of Water Versus the Empty Glass
When I give seminars, this is the moment that I introduce the most
memorable visual aids I have ever used. Picture yourself holding an
empty drinking glass in one hand and a pitcher containing water in
the other. The glass represents your house. For simplicity's sake,
let's say it is worth $100,000. It's an asset. Let's say you have
$100,000 of cash in the bank (the pitcher) -- that's liquid wealth.
The glass is empty because you have not put a penny into your house,
but on paper, on a balance sheet, you would still list it as a
$100,000 asset. Meanwhile the pitcher of water represents another
asset -- $100,000 in cash.

Sponsored Post: Knowledge is power. In the workplace,
knowledge means increased chances of career advancement.
EarnMyDegree.com is a site dedicated to matching prospective
students' educational goals with their career and personal goals.
With the advent of the Internet, we no longer are limited to the
closest college or university. Fewer limits means more choices. As
per EarnMyDegree.com's website, "Whether you want to search for a
degree by degree subject, degree level, online university, or you
wish to study at a nearby college campus, you've found the right
place. We feature hundreds of degree programs across numerous
accredited online and traditional schools."
The EarnMyDegree.com website is divided into two main sections. As
mentioned above, one section allows prospective students to search
for the program that best meets their needs and the other section
provides useful resources on what to consider (making an informed
decision is key). Most of the degrees featured on EarnMyDegree.com
are designed for working professionals so they can pursue their
career while attending school. You don't have to put your career on
hold as a compromise to reaching higher up the corporate ladder.
Overall, the EarnMyDegree.com's website is user-friendly,
well-structured, and comprehensive in terms of the resources and
services that it offers. Following is a link to the site:

Book Review: Hire Me, Inc. by Roy J.
Blitzer
Wednesday, November 22, 2006
Hire Me, Inc., by Roy J. Blitzer, is a comprehensive guide to job
searching, complete with insightful advice, concrete examples, and
practical exercises. The author leads us through each chapter in a
methodical way, following our progress as we gain valuable lessons
on how to present ourselves to prospective employers.
Hire Me, Inc. is a book about finding who we are and presenting
ourselves in the best light possible. Blitzer draws a parallel
between looking for a job and promoting a product. Yet, his goal is
not to help us find a job at any cost, but to find a job that we
will truly enjoy. Work is part of life, and a life working in a job
that we despise will not lead to that happiness that we all strive
for.
Review of CHIMBY - Career Advice
Search Engine

Sponsored Post:
CHIMBY
is the latest addition to the "search engine family." While major
search engines specialize in retrieving the most relevant content on
the Web indiscriminately (Google, Yahoo, and MSN - number 1, 2, and
3 respectively), specialized search engines have made their
appearance recently (as some might say... it was only a matter of
time). All search engines commit to the same basic goal: to help
their users find the information that they need.
In addition to job search engines (those specializing in retrieving
job openings from the Web such as Indeed, SimplyHired, and Jobster),
we now have "career advice" search engines such as CHIMBY. CHIMBY
crawls over 300 career-related websites, including WorkBloom, in an
effort to help job seekers in their quest or hunt... for a job that
is. CHIMBY comes with "preset" searches for the most common
queries, but also allows users to enter their own keywords.
The basic idea underlying CHIMBY is that if it restricts itself to a
select list of websites specializing in providing advice to job
seekers, then its search results should therefore be more accurate.
We invite you to go try and see for yourselves.
