Being an entrepreneur can feel a lot like juggling dozens of balls in your hand. There are many things that you need to take care of, and a huge amount of your time will go to prioritizing which to deal with first.

This is tough, but that’s not the only downside of the work. All of this balancing and running between the chores can drive anyone crazy – no matter how strong your nerves are! Sadly, we see this more and more often – especially in the times of adversity we find ourselves now.

Therefore, you will want to include “keeping sane” on your list of tasks – no matter how much it’s already overworked. But do not worry – today, I share some of the best ways in which you can achieve this!

1) Set Your Priorities

The first thing you will want to figure out is a good system. Running a business can look like building a house from time to time. You will want to set up a strong foundation that will help you withstand anything that goes on top.

When starting a business, it is important to gather all your ideas in one place for starters. Using a one-page business plan for this is extremely helpful. With this you can gather all your scattered ideas in one place.

The most important things to take into account when sketching out your business ideas are:

Why? (Problem)

  • Is there a market problem that you plan to solve with your business idea?
  • What unmet customer needs can be an opportunity for you?

What? (Solution)

  • What is the brilliant solution that your idea will bring to the market?
  • How will it resolve the existing problem?
  • What sets your solution apart from others?


  • Who are your most important customers?
  • What are their goals and pain points?


  • What is the value that you are giving to your customers, or your Unique Selling Proposition?
  • What makes your products or services different from the rest?

After concluding this, next steps should come easily. This way, you’ll have a helping hand while figuring out whether your business will be profitable and successful.

2) Make Sure You Also Disengage

When you are running a business, you will always want to be present for it. You do not know when something can go awry – and if you react quickly, you will be able to exhaust the flames, right?

Well, this is what I thought, too, at the beginning. But sooner rather than later, I have found myself trying to douse the flames all over the company – sometimes, to my detriment. You will realize that there are things that require you to take a step back and think things through. And when you are on the clock 24/7, a clear head is hard to come by.

So, make sure you understand that your business will need you to be level-headed and well-rested – even more so than always there! This is why you will want to disengage from time to time.

Nowadays, technology helps us stay relevant and in touch at all times. But if you are waking on a Sunday morning with your inbox full, then rest will be hard to come by! So, you will want to set up boundaries. Let your employees know when they can contact you – and when your work hours end. Whatever the problem may be – you can solve it tomorrow.

This way, you will get more time for yourself – and focus on restoring the balance between your personal and professional life. This is one of the most important things to do when trying to keep your sanity as an entrepreneur! I see a lot of people losing themselves in running their business, with no time for themselves. At the end of the day, this should be a pleasure – if it’s not, why are you even attempting to run a business?

3) Take Time to Rest

Disengaging from your business can be tough in the early stages. Everything will be new and exciting, and you will be full of adrenaline and ready to go! This might make it tough to disengage from your employees and clients – but it’s an important thing to do.

One of the best ways to keep your sanity is by creating habits – and incorporating them into your work will help you go a step further! However, to do this, you will need to be well-rested. So, once the adrenaline wears off, make sure you get enough sleep at night!

Examine your sleep schedule and how well you function after a certain number of hours of sleep. Some need only four hours, while others need eight to fully function (me included). Just remember that this needs to be quality sleep – one that’s not interrupted with work calls and notifications. Once you start getting it, you will tackle everything with ease – and you will keep your peace of mind, too!

Something a little less important – but just as essential – is to take some time off work, too. There are two schools of thought when it comes to being an entrepreneur. Some people believe that this means you are going to take time off whenever possible, while others see it as parenting – with no day off what-so-ever. Sadly (or luckily), both of these are wrong.

While it is true that you will not be able to just disappear at the drop of a hat, it’s important to also not be afraid to take a week or two off to rest and recharge. Running a business is a lot of stress, and you can burn out easily and quickly.

Whenever I feel like I am about to do so, I make sure to take a week off. I let the employees take care of the affairs of the business while I focus on myself and my hobbies. I spend time relaxing and focusing on my hobbies to recharge my batteries, and when the week passes – I’m a completely new person, ready to tackle anything in my path!


To conclude, starting a business in times of adversity is challenging. However, it is not something that you cannot manage! With some good organization, you will be able to get a clear appreciation of your tasks and prioritize them well. Then, all you need to do is to control your energy levels to keep your sanity. Ensure you are not with your business 24/7 and take rest when needed – and no adversary will be able to get in your way!
