Dear Mr. Provost,

Advertising Assistant Position

I wanted to introduce myself and inquire as to whether you had any positions available for an advertising assistant. As a recent college graduate, I am eager to start my career and have always wanted to be affiliated with a respected agency like Ericson and Associates.

I have conducted three internships during my college tenure, where I was fortunate to be mentored by professionals who taught me about the business and fueled my interest in pursuing a career in advertising.

Last summer, I worked as an intern at Big Ideas Advertising, where I assisted the creative director with all aspects of creative campaigns and new business pitches — from brainstorming campaign ideas to developing Prezi presentations to proofreading advertisements. Through this experience I learned the importance of being detail-oriented and acting as a team player, helping with anything that needed to be done, no matter how minor.

Prior to that, I served as an intern in the advertising department of The Daily World, where I helped clients prepare materials for publication. Among the skills I learned there were customer service, attention to detail and the mechanics of print advertising.

Finally, throughout the school year, I helped with a pro bono campaign for the American Heart Association for class credit. The group I worked with implemented a variety of new social media initiatives that helped increase the AHA’s following by 10 percent. We also wrote materials that were incorporated into a direct mail campaign.

Attached is my resume, along with some writing samples and references from a teacher and two of my internship supervisors. Even if you do not have a position right now, I am eager to meet you at your convenience for an informational interview, in hopes that you would consider me when something becomes available. I will call you next week to follow-up. Alternatively, you may reach me at (514) 345-8789. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Yours truly,

Jane Doe
