Between Jobs: What to Do While Unemployed

Between Jobs

Unemployment is hard, but don’t let yourself go. Following are some tips to help you through this difficult time while you're between jobs:

Stay Motivated

If you lose your drive, you will lose sight of your ultimate goal of finding a job. You're your own boss now. Nobody will or can tell you what to do. It's up to you to make it happen. Motivation is key because it will help you stay positive and be more productive.

Maintain Your Skill Set

You may feel that life has stopped, but it hasn’t. Continue to follow what’s going on in your profession or industry. Don't stagnate. You never know when you'll receive an employment offer, but when it comes and you sign it, you better be ready for this next stage in your life.

Establish a Daily Routine or Schedule

Avoid having too much time on your hands. That will only get you depressed. Keep busy. The busier you are, the better. Try to keep the same pace as when you were working. Looking for work is hard work. There's no time to rest (except for the first week... we all deserve a break!).

Build Your Online Presence

If you didn’t have the time to build your online presence or familiarize yourself with social media, now’s a good time. Gain exposure and connect with others.

Go Out and Meet People

Don’t stay home all day. You will only isolate yourself.
