Standing out in a crowd is hard. The bigger the crowd, the harder it is to stand out. This job market is begging for your creative genius. How will you stand out in a large crowd of job seekers? One executive told me that in the first hour of a position posting, they had over 300 applicants. How did that happen? The applicants electronically uploaded their resumes online. It was like pouring out a carton of dominos. To him, so many of the resumes looked exactly the same.

Break away from the fold. It will require ingenuity and a creative slant to stand out in this market. Consider buying a domain with your name to post your resume. Most of them range in price from 95 cents a year to $15.00 a year.

Consider driving to a company that you'd like to work for. Walk to the Human Resources Department. Fill out an application. Do that once a week for 8 weeks. Be dedicated. Don't give up. Make friends with the Human Resources Staff. Consider creating a Youtube video explaining the job that you are looking for. Think about creating a business case with a proven return on investment for a company and get a meeting with a senior executive at that company to present your idea. Be bold. Stand out. Be creative and pound the pavement. You need to become a person with a face. You need to become a real person, not a digital byte on their computer screen. Don't get me wrong, it is important to have a great digital resume for online searches. But, above the online resume, you will need to be MORE CREATIVE than the over 300 other people that want that same position that you want.

Don't write a hand written thank you. Deliver a hand written thank you with their favorite chocolate candy bar or cookie. Take everything a step further and go a notch above. You cannot find a job in this market without being in the top 5 percent. Rise to the top of the pile with a plan that helps you to stand out and stand above.
